UMD Hosts Inaugural Project Management Symposium

College Park, Md. – The University of Maryland’s Project Management Center for Excellence has announced its first annual Project Management Symposium that will be held June 9-10, 2014 in the Stamp Student Union on the University of Maryland (UMD) campus in College Park, Md.

Connecting academically rigorous research with practical applications, this symposium will bring together project management professionals from academe, industry and government to share, explore and learn the best management practices for today’s dynamic project environments.

"This should be a powerhouse event," said Director of the Project Management Center for Excellence Dr. John Cable, "We are bringing together some of the best professionals in the field, and we are really excited about the level of participation we have already received."

Featuring over 35 guest speakers and presenters, the symposium will offer project management professionals an opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field. Topics will range from disaster management and human factors to global project management and innovative financing, and attendees can use symposium sessions towards earning professional development units (PDUs) for maintaining their PMI credential.

Featured guest speakers include:

  • Ron Taylor, Principal and Founder, Ron Taylor Group, author of The 77 Deadly Sins of Project Management
  • Karen Durham-Aquilera, Director of Contingency Operations and Office of Homeland Security, Headquarters, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Regina McElroy, Director, Office of Innovative Program Delivery, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration
  • Mladen Radujkovic, President, International Project Management Association and Dean of faculty and Professor of Project Management and Construction Management, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb Croatia
  • Gregory Balestrero, Former President and CEO, Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Brian McKeon, Senior Vice President, Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Melinda Peters, State Highway Administrator, Maryland Department of Transportation

This event is being held in partnership between the UMD Project Management Center for Excellence and the Silver Spring Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) with media sponsorship support from Project Management World Journal.
