Project Management Center for Excellence Lauded by Accreditor
Faculty at the Center, based at the civil and environmental engineering department, received a Distinguished designation during re-accreditation of its graduate programs this past December. Out of 40 programs audited by the PMI’s visiting team, UMD’s is the only one to have earned this designation. “We are delighted that our faculty were given the Distinguished designation by the auditing team, said Project Management Center of Excellence Director John Cable. “It is great to see the qualifications, dedication, and hard work of the faculty being recognized.” In conferring the designation and reaccreditation, the GAC cited faculty credentials, student satisfaction, strong leadership, and pace-setting innovations.
These include MOOCs offered through the edX platform and a wide range of courses that employ blended learning and “flipped classroom” strategies to maximize student learning. “Faculty knowledge, industry expertise, and long-term commitment to the Program are very impressive,” the auditors said. “Faculty take ownership of their courses and strive to make them relevant and useful to students' current and future careers.” First accredited in 2005, the Center was the first project management program based at an engineering school to win PMI accreditation. The Center currently offers a wide variety of online courses, many geared to working professionals, on topics ranging from agile management to Building Information Modeling. The Center also holds a yearly symposium that brings together practitioners and thought leaders from around the nation. This year’s symposium will be held virtually from April 22-23, 2021.
