Assistant Professor Alireza Khaligh (ECE/ISR) is the principal investigator for a new National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site, "Research Experiences in Transportation Electrification." The three-year, $355K program will bring talented undergraduates to the University of Maryland to gain basic research and laboratory experience in transportation electrification-related engineering projects. It will focus on sustainable transportation systems, particularly in power electronics, energy storage (battery, ultracapacitor and fuel cell), optimization and mathematical modeling of grid-integrated vehicles, and sustainable transportation. The program will begin in summer 2013. About the NSF REU Program
The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.
