Ford Foundation Recognizes Grad Student

J. Edmon Lee Perkins, a grad student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded a Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral Fellowship for 2011. Ford Pre-Doctoral fFellowships provide three years of support with a stipend of $20,000 per year.

The aim of the Ford Pre-Doctoral fellowship program is to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Edmon is one of UM’s first Ford fellowship recipients in more than three years.
