Department of Aerospace Engineering Chair Mark Lewis will be a featured speaker at "Hypersonics and Power Projection," at Air Force Association headquarters in Arlington, Va., on June 30.

In May, Lewis was on-hand for the successful demonstration of the X-51A Waverider, which broke aviation records with its 3,500-plus mile-per-hour flight over the Pacific Ocean. The technology has implications for missile-defense systems.

Lewis is former chief scientist of the U.S. Air Force and worked on the X-51A during his time in that position.
