Professor Mark Shayman has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. He was recognized for his contributions to the theory of Riccati equations and discrete-event dynamic systems.

Shayman's research interests have been focused on communication networks, including WDM networks, free space optical networks, ad hoc networks, and sensor networks, as well as distributed denial of service attack mitigation. He also serves as associate dean for faculty affairs.

IEEE fellows are an elite group from around the globe. The grade of fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The accomplishments that are honored have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society. The IEEE looks to the Fellows for guidance and leadership as the world of electrical and electronic technology continues to evolve.
