Liu Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from National Taiwan University
Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor K.J. Ray Liu has been named a 2021 Distinguished Alumni of National Taiwan University by the University’s Alumni Selection Committee. He has received the award for “outstanding research performance in the field of international electrical and electronics, and for outstanding contributions to leading the innovation and development of IEEE and the global academic community and industrial advancement.” Liu is a Christine Kim Eminent Professor of Information Technology and a Distinguished University Professor. He is a leader in the field of signal processing and communications, and is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards and honors, recently being named President-Elect and 2022 President of IEEE. He received the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing this year for “outstanding leadership in and pioneering contributions to signal processing for wireless sensing and communications.” He was named to the National Academy of Inventors for his pioneering invention of wireless AI analytic technologies for smart home systems. He is the founder of a start-up, Origin Wireless, which recently won two 2021 CES Best of Innovation Awards. Recognized as a top scientist in the world by Guide2Research and a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher, Liu is a Fellow of IEEE and AAAS. Liu received his B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1983, and his Ph.D. degree from UCLA in 1990, both in electrical engineering. The award ceremony will be held on November 15, 2021 during National Taiwan University’s anniversary celebration.
