NIST Director Semerjian to Speak at May 22 Clark School Commencement

Dr. Hratch Semerjian, acting director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will be the commencement speaker at the Clark School graduation ceremony on May 22.

Dr. Semerjian is responsible for overall operation of the Institute, the effectiveness of NIST's technical programs, and interactions with U.S. and international organizations.

NIST is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration. NIST's mission is to develop and promote measurement, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life.

Dr. Semerjian received his M.Sc. (1968) and Ph.D. (1972) degrees in engineering from Brown University. He has served as a lecturer and post doctoral research fellow in the Chemistry Department at the University of Toronto. He also was on the research staff at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division of United Technologies Corp. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2000.

The Clark School commencement ceremony will be held at Cole Field House on Sunday, May 22, at 1 p.m
