Reza Ghodssi named ASME Fellow

Professor Reza Ghodssi (ECE/ISR) has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASME Committee of Past Presidents confers the Fellow grade of membership on worthy candidates to recognize their outstanding engineering achievements. Nominated by ASME Members and Fellows, an ASME Member has to have 10 or more years of active practice and at least 10 years of active corporate membership in ASME.

Dr. Ghodssi's citation reads: "Reza Ghodssi’s research focuses on design and development of microfabrication technologies and processes in micro/nano/bio devices and systems for chemical and biological sensing, small-scale energy conversion and harvesting with a strong emphasis toward health monitoring applications. Dr. Ghodssi has pioneered a number of key engineering technology areas in the Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS), including micro-ball bearing rotary micro-engines, optical microsystems based on InP compound semiconductor, and integration of biological materials such as Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) in micro-energy storage devices. In each of these areas, he has not only pushed the technology forward but was able to provide deep fundamental insights."

Dr. Ghodssi is the Herbert Rabin Distinguished Chair in Engineering within the A. James Clark School of Engineering and is the director of the Institute for Systems Research. He is also affiliated with the University of Maryland’s Fischell Department of Bioengineering, the Maryland NanoCenter, the University of Maryland Energy Research Center (UMERC), and the Materials Science and Engineering Department.
