Baeder Promoted to Professor

Aerospace Engineering Associate Professor James Baeder has been promoted to the rank of Professor. Baeder has been a long time contributor, scholar and leader in Aerospace Engineering's Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center, with research interests in the areas of computational aerodynamics and aeroacoustics with specific interest in coupling computational fluid dynamics to comprehensive rotor analysis.

Baeder is currently leading the Department of Aerospace Engineering's foray into wind energy research as thrust leader for wind energy in the University of Maryland Energy Research Center. In addition, he is the faculty advisor to the Wind TERPines student team working on the U.S. Department of Energy's Global Wind Challenge. The team consists of undergraduate students from across Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. As part of the competition, the team will attend the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Windpower Conference in New Orleans, May 2016.

Baeder received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford University. In 2014, Baeder was one of 15 Aerospace Engineering faculty recognized for their outstanding work by the University of Maryland during the 7th Annual University-Wide Celebration of Scholarship and Research.
