Whiting-Turner Selected for Major Project at National Harbor

Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, a corporate partner of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, has been selected by MGM to build a $1 billion casino and resort in National Harbor, Md.

MGM selected Whiting-Turner for its strong national and regional portfolio that features about 1,000 projects, valued at $8 billion. The facility at National Harbor is expected to be one of the biggest single-facility projects in the D.C. area in the last decade.

Whiting-Turner's CEO, alumnus Timothy J. Regan (B.S. ’77, civil engineering), recently delivered the keynote remarks at the Clark School’s Spring 2014 Commencement. In addition to supporting the Clark School's longstanding Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture Series, the company has also supported the Whiting-Turner Internship-Scholarship program, University Incentive Awards, the Charles Irish Professorship, and the Charles Irish Laboratory at the University of Maryland.

Based in Baltimore, Md., Whiting-Turner continues to be the largest employer of Clark School Civil Engineering students for both entry-level jobs and internships, and the company has employed more than 100 Clark School alumni since 2000.

The new resort and casino at National Harbor is slated to open summer 2016.
