Faculty Founded Techno-Sciences, Inc. Acquired by McMurdo Group

Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), a company founded by Clark School of Engineering Professor Emeritus Lee Davisson and Professor and Associate Chair Gilmer Blankenship, both of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), was acquired on May 6, 2014, by McMurdo Group, a French developer of satellite-based search and rescue technology, including distress beacons, and monitoring software.

TSi is a leading maker of satellite ground stations, emergency response center systems, and coastal surveillance tools. TSi develops advanced hardware and software systems, and provides support for customers in over 20 countries, extending beyond the U.S. to Asia, Europe, and Africa. For more than 35 years, the company has established programs in satellite systems, maritime domain awareness and security, and in systems and control engineering, aerospace engineering, and defense.

McMurdo Group, a division of Orolia, is a global leader in end-to-end search and rescue and maritime domain awareness solutions. McMurdo Group’s experience in the field, totaling over 140 years, comes from the consolidation of Boatracs, Kannad, McMurdo, and now Techno-Sciences brands.  

Jean-Yves Courtois, the CEO of McMurdo Group and Orolia, said the acquisition "expands our global sales, support and customer footprint."

TSi's Beltsville, Md., offices will become the new U.S. headquarters for McMurdo Group.
