Clark School Celebrates Students, Honors Alumni and Faculty at Spring 2013 Commencement

The A. James Clark School of Engineering celebrated its students and faculty at its spring 2013 commencement ceremony on May 20 at the Comcast Center. A total of 868 students were awarded degrees. Keynote speakers included alumna and NASA Electrical Lead Engineer Ms. Florence Tan ('86, EE, B.S.) and student speaker Mr. Juan Quintero-Moreno, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

At the ceremony, the Clark School honored its faculty with the following awards:

  • Poole & Kent Teaching Award for Senior Faculty: Dr. Steven Marcus, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • E. Robert Kent Teaching Award for Junior Faculty: Dr. Teng Li, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering

The Clark School also honored its "Golden Terps," engineering alumni celebrating their 50th reunion and succeeding half-decade classes, which included the first female aerospace engineering graduate (Gail Salzman '58) and the first electrical engineering Ph.D. graduate (Walter Beam ‘47, ‘50, ‘53):
