Seigel Learning Center Earns Media Attention for Cutting Edge Capabilities

The Seigel Learning Center, a distance learning technology center run by the University of Maryland’s Clark School of Engineering, was featured in Commercial Integrator magazine for its advanced, cutting edge capabilities.

The University of Maryland has been using distance technologies for over 25 years. The Distance Education Technology and Services team within the Clark School of Engineering oversees the Seigel Learning Center, comprised of a system that includes six studio classrooms outfitted with high-definition cameras, videoconferencing, LCD displays, and cloud-based lecture capture and webcasting solutions.

Every engineering class is streamed live and captured for later on-demand viewing. The Commercial Integrator article points out that the live recording of lectures capability is what sets the University of Maryland’s distance learning program apart from others.

The University of Maryland online learning capabilities, and the Seigel Learning Center in particular, have received a great deal of attention of late. In January, the center was featured in HigherEd TechDecisions, a magazine focusing on audio visual integration technologies for higher education applications. Nature magazine also visited the Seigel Learning Center for a feature piece on online learning and massive, open, online courses (MOOCs).
