CATT Lab Celebrates Data Innovation Day
Today we live in an era in which massive amounts of information are collected, analyzed, integrated, and disseminated in novel ways to make the world a better place. The unprecedented volume of data being generated today is transforming virtually every industry, including healthcare, transportation, energy and manufacturing. To mark the important opportunities and diversity that exist within the data economy, the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) at the University of Maryland, College Park and many others from across the world have joined together to celebrate Data Innovation Day: a celebration of the benefits generated by the current revolution in data, which will give participants around the world the opportunity to showcase the latest innovations in the use of data and the economic value of the information economy. The theme of the first annual Data Innovation Day is “Big Data. Bigger Opportunities.” The CATT Lab is proud to be amongst the dozens of companies, start-ups, universities, non-profits, and city governments that have signed on to become a partner. “Our participation in Data Innovation Day highlights our organization’s unique role in the evolving industry that is big or open data,” said Michael Pack, CATT Lab director. “By looking at what all of our partners are doing, it’s clear that big data is playing a significant role in both the U.S economy and how our government functions.” The Data Innovation in the U.S. Economy event on January 24, 2013 will feature a demonstration by the CATT Lab. Visit www.datainnovationday.org for more information about the events or to register. The purpose of Data Innovation Day is to raise awareness about the benefits and opportunities that come from increased use of information by individuals and the public and private sector.
