Patents, Commercialization to Count Toward Tenure

Patents, Commercialization to Count Toward Tenure

The University System of Maryland (USM), of which the University of Maryland, College Park, is the flagship institution, will soon count patents and commercialization toward tenure and promotion decisions.

The measure follows a 2010 announcement that USM set itself the 10-year goal of creating 325 companies based on academic research or helped along by university economic-development programs.
