CATT Lab Named Smart Solution

The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) was recognized during the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) Annual Meeting Media Preview event with the Smart Solution Regional Award. This new award recognizes the best and most innovative uses of Intelligent Transportation Systems as an integrated region to create a safe, clean, efficient and sustainable transportation system. It will be presented annually to regional projects that have made a real-world impact, or demonstrated near-term potential, to improve public safety, enhance mobility, create more livable communities, strengthen economic competitiveness or promote environmental sustainability.

This year’s award was presented to the University of Maryland’s CATT Lab, the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Maryland Department of Transportation for their collaborative use of the Regional Integrated Transportation Information System (RITIS) to share information and manage regional issues in the Washington, D.C., area. The award will be received at the DDOT Traffic Management Center in Washington, D.C., where media have been invited to cover the award presentation, observe a demonstration of the RITIS system and take tours of the DDOT center.

For more information about RITIS, visit the CATT Lab’s website at www.cattlab.umd.edu.
