Shamma selected as Blaise Pascal International Research ChairProfessor Shihab Shamma (ECE/ISR) is a 2010-2012 Blaise Pascal International Research Chair. These prestigious chairs, funded for up to two years, are awarded only to highly qualified, internationally acclaimed, foreign research scientists in scientific fields such as exact sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences, applied sciences and new technologies. Shamma was honored as an international recognition of his outstanding contributions to science and neuroscience of hearing and speech. He was selected by a multi-disciplinary jury, in association with the French Institute. He has been working in L’Institut d’Etude de la Cognition (IEC) within the Ecole Normale Supérieure. About the the Blaise Pascal International Research Chairs Management of these chairs is entrusted to the Foundation of the Ecole Normale Superieure. A Scientific Council annually selects candidates. Blaise Pascal Chairs have become famous abroad and within the scientific community and their allocation is a major event of scientific life. The global financial amount attributed to each project can go up to 200 000 € which includes among other things, salaries, social charges, taxes, accompanying expenses. The candidates are required to give approximately 10 lectures, deliver an activity report and organize a public seminar at the end of the period.
