The A. James Clark School of Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) announced that M.S. student Soujanya Kedilaya has been selected as a 2009 Texas Instruments (TI) Scholar. Kedilaya is an advisee of Professor Shuvra Bhattacharyya (ECE/UMIACS).

The TI Scholars program was made possible by a gift from Texas Instruments through the ECE Corporate Affiliates program. Each year, Texas Instruments supports two talented graduate students in electrical and computer engineering with a tuition grant, stipend, and benefits through the TI Scholars program. TI Scholars work on selected research topics related to communications and signal processing.

Soujanya joined the University of Maryland as a Masters student in Fall 2008 after obtaining her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, India in June 2008. She has since been a member of the Digital Signal Processing Computer-Aided Design (DSPCAD) Research Group led by Prof. Bhattacharyya. Soujanya's research interests include embedded software and Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) architectures for signal processing applications.

Soujanya has served as Graduate Teaching Fellow with the ECE Department. Recently, she was a recipient of the Marshall Plan Scholarship that promotes academic exchange between American and Austrian universities, offering her the opportunity to visit the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Austria. She is currently a summer intern with the Multimedia Engineering group at Texas Instruments' Germantown, Md. branch.
