The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) has been awarded a two-year, $4 million research contract by the Office of Policy and Research in Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA).

The scope of this project includes a series of specific tasks to be developed by the Maryland SHA and agreed upon by the University of Maryland on an as-needed basis. The types of tasks that fall within the scope of this project typically include research support, feasibility and pilot studies, and development and delivery of training courses among others.

Ali Haghani, professor and chair of the department, is the principal investigator.

The state already collaborates with researchers in CEE on several traffic and roads projects, including many in the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology. One such project is detailed in a recent press release.
