Dr. Eric Wachsman selected to serve on the Comptroller's Climate Advisory Council
Maryland’s Comptroller, Brooke E. Lierman, recently selected Dr. Eric Wachsman, University of Maryland (UMD) Distinguished University Professor and Director of the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEI2) to serve on the State Comptroller’s Climate Advisory Council. The Council is charged with helping the Office of the Comptroller to position Maryland as a national leader on climate resilience and sustainability. The council will support the agency’s work by providing advice about strategies for Maryland to increase consideration of climate change and sustainability in state procurement, to assess and reflect the true cost of climate change to Maryland, and to best align the state’s economic and fiscal policies with climate change considerations. The Climate Advisory Council is comprised of subject matter experts, professionals, and advocates in the climate, sustainability, environmental justice, and resilience fields. Lierman extended the offer to Wachsman based on his “commitment to service, strong qualifications and unparalleled experience” on energy and climate issues. “It’s my pleasure and honor to serve Maryland in this capacity. I look forward to providing advice on how the State can achieve its climate goals through advanced energy technologies” said Wachsman. Lierman says she looks forward to working with Wachsman to build a state that is more equitable, more resilient, and more prosperous so that every Marylander can reach their full potential.
