2025 Counterfeit Parts and Materials Symposium at College Park

The Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) at the University of Maryland hosted the 2025 Counterfeit Parts and Materials Symposium from June 24–26 in collaboration with SMTA. The event brought together a diverse mix of professionals from government, industry, academia, and business for two days of engaging presentations and discussions, followed by a day of professional development courses.

This year’s Symposium welcomed over 125 participants from more than 60 organizations across six countries. The technical program featured 17 expert talks in eight thematic sessions and included a closing audience feedback session. Topics covered a wide range of issues—from supply chain security and counterfeit detection technologies to legal frameworks, standards, and applications of AI and machine learning. The agenda also included three panel discussions focused on trusted sources, test laboratories, and independent distribution. The accompanying technical exhibition showcased cutting-edge tools, services, and demonstrations from 20 participating organizations, offering attendees direct engagement with solution providers and innovators in the field.

A key theme throughout was the need for continued collaboration in developing and strengthening a reliable and safe supply chain. The proceedings are now available for attendees and CALCE Consortium members. If you would like to purchase access to the proceedings, please visit the SMTA Store.

On June 26, CALCE faculty members offered three professional development courses. The course topics were Electronic Part Obsolescence Management, Counterfeit Detection Using SAE AS6171 Standards, Supply Chain Documentation, and Counterfeit Avoidance. If you are interested in these and other CALCE training courses, please visit our professional development course page.

We thank SMTA for their continued partnership in organizing this Symposium, and we appreciate all attendees, speakers, sponsors, and panelists for making it a success. Planning is already in progress for the 2026 Counterfeit Parts and Materials Symposium. Please get in touch with Dr. Diganta Das if you are interested in participating in the planning for the Symposium in 2026.
