CRR Coordinator DeAndre Jones receives 2025 Newcomer Staff Award

Join me in congratulating DeAndre Jones, CRR Coordinator, on receiving the 2025 Newcomer of the Year Staff Award!

Since joining CRR as our first full-time staff member, DeAndre has completely defined the role. It’s hard to believe he joined UMD only a year ago and completed his B.S. just two years prior — his impact has been nothing short of transformational.

From day one, DeAndre brought exceptional dedication, boundless energy, and a positive, can-do spirit that has elevated every aspect of our Center’s operations. Here are just a few of his standout contributions:

    Excelling as CRR Coordinator
DeAndre serves as the primary point of contact for all Center operations -- a role that includes staffing the front desk, coordinating facilities and purchasing, managing logistics, and supporting three research-active lab groups. His ability to juggle multiple responsibilities with grace and precision has been remarkable.

    Creating Communications and Outreach
He established our Center’s communications strategy from the ground up: launching our LinkedIn page, designing newsletters, updating our website, and developing news features that highlight student and faculty achievements. His work has significantly increased CRR’s visibility and community engagement.

    Leading New Event Management Efforts
In September 2024, DeAndre led logistics for our largest-ever research showcase — the Hydrogen Systems Risk and Reliability Workshop. With over 90 attendees, the event was a resounding success thanks to his leadership and attention to detail.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have DeAndre on the CRR team. This award is well-deserved — and we can’t wait to see where his career takes him (and CRR) next!
