George E. Dieter Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) Director Michael Pecht is the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished International Service Award.

The award, presented by university President C.D. Mote, Jr. at the Office of International Programs' International Day event on November 28, is designed to recognize significant contributions to the university during the past few historic decades when international programs were being developed for the first time on our campus. The main criteria for selection are: one or more significant contributions to the development of international institutional programs at College Park; and a distinguished international career.

Recently, CALCE extended its reach to Asia by opening a branch in South Korea in cooperation with Seoul's Hanyang University.
