Siemens PLM Software Supports UMD Hyperloop Team and The Future of Travel

Siemens PLM Software was an early sponsor of the University of Maryland (UMD) Hyperloop Team, UMD Loop, at the the team's top tier Hyperloop level. The UMD team was one of only 30 teams—out of more than one hundred!—original selected January 2016 to advance in SpaceX’s first ever Hyperloop Pod Competition to develop the "5th mode of transportation." Since their selection, the team has been working industriously throughout the year, including no shortage of all-nighters, to finalize their prototype pod, Prometheus, cqapable of speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.

In addition to cash support of the team’s efforts, Siemens PLM Software has provided access to industry-leading computer aided design tools and training for the NX, Team Center, and Learning Management System (LMS) modules of Siemens PLM Software’s suite.

In May 2016, UMD Loop team members Tom Fowler and Nico Gomez took their Hyperloop show on the road to exhibit its design at PLM Connections Conference in Orlando, Flor. The conference is presented by PLM World, a nonprofit organization for the Siemens PLM Software global user community. UMD Loop was the only academic exhibitor at the annual conference, which attracted more than 2,000 engineering professionals from industry and government around the globe.

From the team, "We would like to once again thank all of our wonderful sponsors and donors for their support of UMD Loop. Prometheus would not be possible without your generosity and interest in making the Hyperloop a reality."
