Professor Ali Mosleh Awarded 3-year FAA Grant

Professor of Reliability Engineering Ali Mosleh has been awarded a $1.5M, 3-year project grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for studies in the Development of Methodology for Aviation System Risk. The project is to play a central role in helping FAA to risk-inform its regulatory and oversight functions. Under this effort Professor Mosleh will also coordinate other FAA sponsored safety studies at MIT, Berkley, and Michigan, as well as TU Delft in the Netherlands, towards an integrated systems approach to aviation safety.

This project is the first large contract of the newly formed Center for Risk and Reliability, a research arm of the Reliability Engineering Program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mosleh was appointed as the Director of the Reliability Engineering Program this summer.

Professor Mosleh is an internationally recognized leader in technology risk and reliability with numerous seminal contributions to diverse fields of theory and application, winner of several scientific achievement awards, Fellow and Chair of the Engineering Division of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA), Engineering Editor of the SRA Journal, Chair and organizer of numerous international conferences on risk and reliability engineering, and technical advisor to many national and international organizations.
