Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering Launches Cutting-Edge AI Graduate Program for Fall 2025


Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering (MAGE) at the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland is excited to announce the launch of its new Engineering Artificial Intelligence program. MAGE is now accepting applications for Fall 2025 admission. This innovative program offers both a Master of Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Engineering with flexible completion options including in-person, online, or a hybrid format. Designed to provide rigorous technical education, the program focuses on the analysis and design of intelligent engineered devices and systems.

"AI is revolutionizing industries worldwide, creating an urgent demand for engineers who can develop and implement intelligent systems,” says Dr. Sennur Ulukus, Program Content Advisor, Department Chair of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Distinguished University Professor. “This program offers an in-depth curriculum that equips students with both foundational AI principles and advanced technical skills in areas such as machine learning, data analytics, and embedded systems. The program is uniquely positioned to combine engineering and AI principles to develop and support future intelligent systems, such as robot learning, generative AI networks, safe and secure deployment of AI, and sustainable AI. Graduates will be prepared to tackle complex challenges and lead the next wave of technological innovation."

The Engineering Artificial Intelligence program is a collaborative effort across the A. James Clark School of Engineering, allowing students to tailor their curriculum through a selection of technical electives that align with their backgrounds and interests. Areas of focus include Bioengineering, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Cybersecurity, Cloud Engineering, Data Science & Analytics, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Reliability, Robotics, Software Engineering, and Systems Engineering.

Dr. George Syrmos, Assistant Dean for Continuing Education, emphasized the program's relevance in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape: "Our new Engineering Artificial Intelligence program is designed to equip professionals with the advanced skills necessary to lead in the development of intelligent systems. Graduates will be well-prepared to drive innovation in various industries, addressing the growing demand for AI expertise."

Graduates from the program will be prepared for professional careers in areas such as embedded system design and implementation, industrial and automotive systems engineering, software and data engineering, communications system design, and medical signal processing. The program's comprehensive curriculum ensures that students gain both foundational knowledge and specialized skills applicable to a wide range of industries.

To help introduce this new program, MAGE is also offering an application fee waiver for new applications for the Master of Engineering and Graduate Certificate in Engineering in Engineering AI for Fall 2025 only.
