The Associate Dean of Research Office of the A. James Clark School of Engineering is pleased to recognize Edward Angelovich for his 10 years of service at the University of Maryland. For his exceptional efforts, Associate Dean Jelena Srebric presented him with the award at the year-end office luncheon.
“Ed is an incredible manager with a lot of patience and drive to do good for the Clark School faculty, staff, and students. He manages an incredible number of difficult projects with profound calm and integrity.”
As the Clark School Director of Facilities, Angelovich leads a team that addresses a wide range of construction and facility challenges; everything from helping new faculty members design and prepare their lab spaces to supporting major building projects like construction of the IDEA Factory and Zupnik Hall.
The Clark School is fortunate to have someone as experienced as Angelovich in managing the extensive facility needs of engineering faculty and students. A former Terp, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Maryland. Then after completing his Master of Architecture at North Carolina State University, he worked at an architectural and engineering firm in the DC area for several years before returning to College Park as a project manager for Facilities Management at UMD. He was hired as Director of Facilities Operations in 2018 to support expanding and improving the Clark School's facilities inventory, including multiple new capital projects.
It is this unique experience as an architect and familiarity with UMD that has made him so effective as Director of Facilities. The Clark School is among the few colleges on campus who can conduct and manage their own construction projects, which are often highly complex given the unique needs among engineering faculty. If funding arrives for installation of an advanced manufacturing lab with equipment weighing 20,000 lbs. and significant power and utility needs, Angelovich and his team are there to make it happen.
Among his many and highly visible accomplishments on campus, Angelovich says he is particularly proud of his team’s efforts during the COVID pandemic, in which they successfully managed construction of the IDEA Factory as well as pivoted to a virtual design process for Zupnik Hall to ensure it met the needs of engineering students and faculty.
The ADR office is thankful to Angelovich for everything he does and we look forward to more years of working together!
