Broadcaster Tavis Smiley interviewed the winners of the Tavis Smiley/University of Maryland Social Innovation Challenge on Public Radio International’s program, “The Tavis Smiley Show.” Smiley’s interview is also featured on the Huffington Post.

Smiley partnered with the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering last summer to create the $75,000 challenge in order to address pressing issues in hunger, education, and sustainability. In January, DC Central Kitchen, BUILD Metro DC, and Million Dollar Scholar were announced as the winners.

The challenge attracted submissions from 23 states and the District of Columbia, and three winners were chosen based on their originality, approach, experience, and social impact.
