Wu, Flatau Invited to National Academies Presidents' Circle Event

Professor Min Wu (electrical and computer engineering and University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies) and Associate Dean Alison Flatau (professor of aersopace engineering) participated in the National Academies' Presidents' Circle 2012 Annual Meeting. Only a few dozen guests participated in the event.

The Presidents’ Circle of the National Academies is an honorary association that engages with the presidents of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine to ensure they have the intellectual, human and financial resources needed to sustain and enhance their work. The theme of this year's annual meeting was on global issues, crises and policy. Distinguished speakers presented timely issues and led extensive discussions related to energy security, the future of nuclear energy, dual use biomedical research of concern, science and technology in global affairs and government service. Presidents of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine also shared with the circle members and guests recent efforts by the National Academies, and reflected on the Academies' response toward challenges to the nation.
